9月14日，俄罗斯方面报道称，阿塞拜疆远程炮兵部队，对亚美尼亚格加尔库尼克发动了炮击！
画面显示，被击毁的汽车内，悬挂着俄罗斯的国旗。这里不是激战中的乌克兰，而是亚美尼亚和阿塞拜疆边境上的俄罗斯边境哨所。
炮击造成在此的俄罗斯联邦安全局边防军部队设施和车辆严重受损，俄军部队遭到了炮击！这是阿塞拜疆在本轮冲突中，第一次向俄军开火！
据有关方面报道，阿塞拜疆炮击了纳戈尔诺-卡拉巴赫地区的俄罗斯 FSB 边境哨所。幸好俄罗斯军人早已从哨所中撤离，没有人员伤亡报告。
位于南高加索的纳戈尔诺-卡拉巴赫地区，介于下卡拉巴赫与赞格祖尔之间，包含小高加索山脉的东南支脉该地区多属山地与森林被国际社会普遍承认为阿塞拜疆的一部分。围绕纳-卡地区，阿塞拜疆和亚美尼亚多次发生冲突。1988年2月至1994年5月之间，纳-卡战争爆发，3万人在冲突中丧生。停战以后，俄罗斯在纳-卡地区布置了维和士兵。不料，随着乌克兰战争中俄军的溃不成军，阿塞拜疆也在纳-卡地区动作频频。这次干脆就袭击了俄军的哨所，真是一点也不客气。
