吉打州政府从2023年1月1日开始全面祭出“禁赌令”，不再为州内的博彩公司和业者，发放或更新营业场所的商业执照后，直接受州政府此决策影响而无法在吉打州经营投注站的博彩公司、业者和代理，就于当年向亚罗士打高庭入禀司法检讨案件。
高庭法官玛哈占于2024年6月20日，宣判吉打州政府的上述决策违宪，因为该决定否定了博彩业者获财政部长根据1967年博彩法令发放执照在吉打州经营博彩业的权利。
高庭当时除了撤销吉打州政府的上述决策，也裁定作为司法检讨案件申请人的博彩公司、代理和业者，应获州政府向他们支付赔偿金，具体数额则有待评估。
