首先介绍一下我们生活里可以见到的实体白虎。众所周知老虎都是黄毛黑纹的，但是基因变异的老虎就有白毛黑纹。这种万分之一几率下诞生的白虎，失去了老虎天生隐没的能力，实在不适合在野林里生活。同时白虎也患有其它健康问题，比一般的老虎衰弱。然而在动物园和马戏团里，白虎有十分强的吸金和号召力，很受观众的欢迎。

接下来的3月6日也就是二十四节气惊蛰的开始，中华传统文化有 “白虎开口日”这一名称。相传白虎会在惊蛰日当天出来觅食，最喜欢咬人。白虎也为口舌是非之神，所以人们要在惊蛰日那天到庙宇去拜白虎、打小人还有驱霉运。今年白虎煞落到生肖羊的人身上，如果本身为了求个安心，祈求平安顺利，不妨考虑去祭拜虎爷。同时犯太岁的5个生肖（兔、鸡、鼠、龙和马）也适合拜白虎。关于祭拜仪式，敬请参考各庙祝的指示与安排。

在中华神话里头，白虎也是天上的四大灵兽，掌管西方。西方在玄学里属于金，颜色为白色，所以白虎的名称十分贴切。在星像学里，28星宿里的西方也为白虎。白虎代表的季节为秋季。秋天金黄色落叶的景观都很迷人，一点都不像凶猛的白虎。
那么“左青龙右白虎”这道名句又怎么说呢？其实在风水学里，从你家或店看出去的右方，也称为白虎位。白虎一般上都是凶煞方位，所以建筑物的右方不易有高的建筑物或路口，不然的话就犯了白虎抬头或白虎开口类似的形煞。当然我们不能一言概论，一个地方风水的好坏还是要由专业师父进行实地勘察。
